General Finishes Water-Based Pre-Stain Conditioner, Natural, 1 Quart

General Finishes Water-Based Pre-Stain Conditioner in Natural is a clear, water-based wood conditioner designed to help reduce uneven stain absorption and blotching before applying General Finishes Water-Based Wood Stain. It is especially useful when preparing blotch-prone interior woods such as pine and cherry. Because the conditioner partially seals the wood, it may reduce the intensity of the stain color; always test the combination first. Natural is a conditioner, not a pigmented wood stain or a stand-alone protective finish.

Sand and clean raw wood, remove dust, and stir thoroughly before and during use. Apply a liberal, even coat with a synthetic-bristle brush, foam brush, pad, roller, or suitable spray equipment, then wipe away excess conditioner evenly with the grain. Under ideal conditions, allow the conditioner to dry for about 20 minutes, but no more than 30 minutes, before applying General Finishes Water-Based Wood Stain. For dense maple where a dark stain is desired, General Finishes advises against pre-sealing because it can prevent sufficient color absorption. Test your entire staining and topcoating schedule on a sample before starting the project.

Designed for interior, unfinished wood surfaces, this conditioner can cover approximately 100–150 square feet per quart, depending on wood porosity and application. Drying and working times may vary with temperature and humidity. Clean tools promptly with soap and water while the product is wet. Complete the project with a compatible wood stain and protective topcoat as appropriate; do not use the conditioner as the final finish. Color: Natural (clear). Size: 1 Quart (946 mL).
