General Finishes Water-Based Wood Stain in Cabernet adds a rich, deep reddish-brown wine-toned color to interior wood while allowing its grain and character to remain visible. The medium-bodied, highly pigmented formula spreads and blends easily to produce even color, including on harder-to-stain woods such as maple and pine. Its water-based formulation offers low odor, low VOC content, and convenient soap-and-water cleanup while wet.
Ideal for indoor furniture, cabinets, doors, trim, and woodworking projects, this stain may be applied with a synthetic-bristle or foam brush, roller, staining pad, or suitable spray equipment. For best results, prepare wood by sanding and removing dust, stir thoroughly before and during use, and work in manageable sections. Follow General Finishes' directions for applying the stain and wiping away excess. Test the stain and intended topcoat together on the same wood species first, because wood grain, surface preparation, and topcoat selection can affect the final color.
On raw wood, the stain is generally touch-dry after 30 minutes or longer and may be recoated after at least 2 hours under ideal conditions. Cooler temperatures or high humidity may require longer drying. Coverage is approximately 100–150 square feet per quart, depending on wood porosity and application.
