General Finishes Water-Based Wood Stain in Black gives interior wood a rich, deep black tone while allowing the natural grain and texture to remain visible. Its medium-bodied, high-pigment formula is designed to spread easily, blend smoothly, and provide even color on a variety of wood species, including hard-to-stain woods such as maple and pine. This water-based stain offers low odor, low VOC content, a noncombustible formulation, and easy soap-and-water cleanup while wet.
Suitable for interior furniture, cabinets, doors, trim, and other wood-finishing projects, the stain may be applied with a synthetic-bristle or foam brush, roller, pad, or suitable spray equipment. Sand and clean raw wood before staining, stir thoroughly before and during application, and work in manageable sections. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for wiping away excess stain. Test the entire stain-and-topcoat process on the same wood species first, because wood grain, preparation, lighting, and topcoat selection can affect the final appearance.
On raw wood, the stain is generally touch-dry in 30 minutes or longer, with a minimum recoat time of 2 hours under ideal conditions. Allow additional drying time in cool or humid environments. Typical coverage is 100–150 sq. ft. per quart, depending on wood porosity and the application method. A compatible protective topcoat is required for durability. For interior use only. Color: Black.
